Wisdom Teeth Removal
Wisdom tooth extraction can be an intimidating procedure. We want our patients taken care of in the most professional manner. This is why we have an incredible relationship with Northwest Oral Surgery, located in Marietta and throughout Cobb County. Like most oral surgery practices, NWOS likes to have patients referred to them from a General Dentist. You can come into our practice for an exam or even a complementary consultation and we can give you a referral to NWOS where you’ll receive VIP treatment as one of our patients.
Why do wisdom teeth have to come out?
When wisdom teeth are impacted or partially impacted, they can easily damage bone and structure of adjacent teeth or even develop decay. Partially erupted teeth are impossible to keep clean and develop gum disease or decay in simply a matter of time. Extracting these teeth is a preemptive therapy that allows patients to avoid complications later on when the teeth are more fully developed.
Impacted wisdom teeth (those that you can’t see inside your mouth) can develop cysts and cause bone damage. Extractions may be simple or surgical, depending on the location and stage of development of each wisdom tooth. Surgical extractions involve segmenting the tooth and removing a portion at a time. Proper home care should be followed to decrease the risk of any side effects such as dry socket. Soreness may last for a few days. Complete healing time usually occurs within 2 weeks.
