Marietta Sedation Dentistry
At Gilreath Family Dentistry Marietta, we understand that dentistry can be stressful for some people and absolutely terrifying for others. To help our patients, we offer several sedation options including Nitrous Oxide (laughing gas), and oral medicines to help alleviate stress and fear. For individuals who need it, we offer the ability to have your dentistry completed under the watchful eye of a board-certified Anesthesiologist (MD) who can provide IV sedation—where you’ll sleep during your dental treatment and wake up remembering nothing. Please talk to our team about your needs and concerns.
We make no judgments at all. We only want you to be comfortable.
Oral Sedation Dental Care
Dentists Marietta provides our patients with two options for Sedation during dental procedures–Nitrous Oxide (laughing gas) and Oral Sedation using a medicine that you swallow. Nitrous Oxide is given to patients by way of a nosepiece. We find that many patients really like using Nitrous Oxide because it is easy to administer, it is well tolerated by patients and its effect goes away within a minute after you stop breathing it. This is used throughout the procedure and provides a very comfortable level of sedation. The feeling is one of relaxation with less anxiety. This is a good method of sedation for patients who are only mildly anxious. Nitrous Oxide can be used on adults and children alike.
Nitrous Oxide Dentists
- You will feel no discomfort when the local anesthetic is administered.
- You will remain fully conscious, but completely relaxed.
- The dosage and concentration can be easily changed if needed during your treatment.
- You will recover quickly (1-3 minutes) and can return to normal activities like driving.
- Nitrous oxide is very safe and effective.
- You don’t need to be accompanied by another adult.
- Very easily tolerated and can be used on children.
The second method of Sedation Dentistry is obtained using medication and is called Enteral Conscious Sedation. We give you a pill to take before you come in to our office which calms you and often even makes you sleep. With this method, you remember much less of the procedure and you may even fall asleep. This is a good option for patients who are much more anxious.
- You will feel no discomfort when the local anesthetic is administered.
- You will remain fully conscious, but completely relaxed.
- You may fall asleep and you will typically remember less of the procedure after it is over.
- We cannot be assured of the level of sedation you will experience.
- You must have someone accompany you to our office for the procedure since you will not be able to drive.
- Some people do not tolerate the medication well, which can occasionally result in nausea.
