Atlanta Porcelain Veneers
A porcelain veneer is an extremely thin piece of porcelain about as thick as your fingernail that bonds to the front of your teeth. We use veneers as a cosmetic dental treatment to change the shape, color and size of the teeth. We also use them as an “instant orthodontics” treatment since the front of the teeth can be aligned to give the illusion that the teeth are straight. Porcelain veneers are a conservative approach and the most utilized cosmetic dentistry procedure. They mimic tooth structure better than any other dental restoration. Dr. Gilreath and our labs work closely to produce extremely realistic veneers that provide function and beauty.

Who is a candidate for porcelain veneers?
Well, just about anyone who wants to improve their smile. If you have worn or discolored teeth, chipped or broken teeth, teeth that are out of line or uneven or spaces in between your teeth, you can probably restore them with porcelain veneers to obtain a beautiful smile. Our doctors use their passion for artistry to produce extremely lifelike veneers.
Everyone likes to look at a beautiful smile and study after study show that individuals with beautiful smiles are more successful in their business relationships. Many people are unhappy with their smiles. They feel embarrassed to smile and sometimes even talking to other people can make them feel self-conscious. And many of these individuals don’t want crowns on their front teeth. These patients are often great candidates for veneers. To place a veneer, a very small amount of tooth is shaved off. This gives the veneer a place to sit on the tooth. When bonded into place, Dr. Gilreath IV uses special cements that can modify the color of the veneer to make it have the most natural look possible. And veneers are not just for young people. In fact, people of all ages get veneers! It can be a life-changing event for many people and is one of the most fulfilling treatments we perform in our practice.

What is involved in getting porcelain teeth veneers?
At Gilreath Dental Associates, we’ve placed hundreds of veneers and work hard to make each and every case a successful one that you will be proud of. In order to do this, we use a very systematic approach.
First, we sit down and talk with you. We listen to your concerns and your wants. We then take a series of digital photographs and show them to you. Using these, we talk together about how to best approach your smile enhancement. We listen to you and make a treatment plan that is customized to your wants and desires–whether it’s a single veneer or 18 veneers! Once we decide on a treatment plan, we perform a Smile Imaging procedure to show you what you can expect from the treatment.
After the plan for your cosmetic treatment is finalized, we take impressions of your teeth and send study models to a Master Ceramist, the lab technician with advanced skills in cosmetic dental treatment. We use exceptional labs and technicians from all around the country. This ceramist makes a “wax-up” on your models that will show exactly what shapes and contours will be incorporated into the veneers. Once we receive your wax-up back from the lab, we will meet with you and evaluate the wax-up together. The wax-up allows us to see the end result before we get started with your treatment. We also use the wax-up as a template for the temporaries you will have. The lab duplicates every nuance of the wax-up in the temporaries and this allows you to try them out before the ceramist completes your permanent restorations. This step, which many dentists don’t incorporate into their protocol, really helps us understand how you will look and function in the new restorations.
Next, we will talk about anything you want changed (shape, contours, length, etc) and convey that to the ceramist and then have have your restorations processed. The lab fabricates your restorations to our specifications and returns them.
At the next appointment, we take off your temporaries and bond your permanent restorations in while adjusting the bite where necessary. If you tend to clench or grind your teeth at night, we will also make a night guard for your to wear during sleep to keep your restorations safe at night.
The result will be incredibly lifelike restorations that will look and feel like real teeth. Though our procedure is slightly more involved than those used by some dentists, at Gilreath Dental Associates, our chief concern is your total satisfaction and by following these methods, you can be assured that we will achieve this goal.
