Invisalign & Metal Braces: Which Is The Best Orthodontic Treatment?

90% of people report that a smile is the essential feature of an individual’s overall appearance. So to get beautifully aligned, healthy teeth, many individuals choose to get metal braces or Invisalign. But between Invisalign and metal braces, which one is suitable for you or your child? This decision comes down to a few essential personal fondness and preferences.

Read below for everything you need to know about the Invisalign & metal braces.

Cost

If the cost of orthodontic treatment is a concern, traditional braces are usually the more affordable ones. Metal braces generally cost between $2,500 and $8,000.

Invisalign costs will vary depending on how many trays are required for the treatment. The number of trays you get to wear depends on how much the teeth need to be moved. Invisalign may cost you between about $3,500 and $8,000.

Appearance

The most significant difference between braces and Invisalign is their look, and Invisalign will beat metal braces in this category every time. Invisalign is almost invisible or discreet, while traditional metal braces are more noticeable.

Invisalign trays are made from a high-quality transparent plastic material, whereas braces are made of metal. Some kids may enjoy wearing metal braces as they come in colored bands for metal braces. Still, most teenagers and adults prefer Invisalign clear aligners.

Comfort

Invisalign is undoubtedly more comfortable than traditional braces because it exerts less pressure on the teeth. Braces can also have scratch edges that cut the inner lip and the cheek.

Effectiveness

Braces have been used to straighten teeth and beautify smiles for a lifetime. The patient cannot remove metal braces, and therefore, they have to wear them 24 hours a day until the treatment ends. The case with Invisalign is that the trays are removable, so patients may not always wear them at the suggested time of use. Also, if you forget or misplace the trays & won’t wear them, your teeth will shift back to the former position.

Convenience

Both braces and Invisalign have pros and cons in terms of comfort. Metal braces are convenient because they are fixed to your teeth & can not be taken off, but they can contain you from eating certain foods, which may become bothersome at a point in life. Invisalign is suitable when the wearer does not want to give up on their diet & can enjoy favorite hard or sticky foods, but remember to take out the trays and store them securely in their case.

Care & Cleaning

Whether you have metal braces or Invisalign aligners, cleaning your teeth should be your priority. Generally, Invisalign’s cleaning process is more straightforward because you can brush and floss normally. Still, there is some extra effort needed to maintain the trays clean. Every time you eat, you have to clean the trays & rinse them using running water. On the other hand, if the food gets stuck in the metal braces, you may need to use a smaller brush to clean it. Brushing & flossing with metal braces is also challenging.

The Verdict Which Orthodontic Treatment Is Best: Invisalign Or Meta Braces

In the end, the debate between Invisalign vs. braces all comes down to personal choice. So, to make the decision that is most suitable for you or your child, you should consider the categories mentioned above. But your orthodontist will determine whether you can get Invisalign or metal braces. Dr. Natasha is the best dentist I've seen. She's so considerate of your fear of the dentist and was so painless although multiple procedures were done at the same time to save me a visit. Will definitely be coming here for years to come Il!

Susan

Dr. Gilreath is incredible with my kids. They love going to the dentist now! And this busy mom loves the warm neck wraps, the soft music and enjoying a latte while I relax!

Was lucky enough to find these guys when I got insurance that my old dentist did not take. Very professional and friendly staff! Office has the latest greatest technology as well. If you're looking for a new dentist, search no further!

Susie L.

Very personable and friendly, they took the time to go over my complex dental history and did not pressure me into anything. They gave their recommendations and priced out any options I had. Great group!

Dr. Gilreath and his staff are top notch. I received the best cleaning I've ever had while watching my favorite show. The Doctor and his staff were all very polite, friendly, and courteous. They explained everything to me clearly and presented me with options in a gentle way that didn't make me feel pressured at all. It's obvious they really care about the wellbeing of their patients. The facility and equipment is really nice as well. I will definitely be back!

Always willing to work around my kids and my schedules. Today I had a long appointment. They started on time and always made sure I was comfortable and that the pain was managed so the procedure could’ve been completed without issues. Very courteous and professional staff.

Awesome dental practice! The staff is friendly and efficient. Dr. Gilreath is thorough and versed in the latest technology and procedures. I love that he can make crowns in the office while you wait (so no walking around with a temporary crown for days or weeks). I would strongly recommend this dental practice!

Matthew W.

I've been going here for about a little over a year now. I've had a few cleanings, a filling, and started Invisiline so far. Hands down, the best run dental office I've ever been to. In the past at other dental offices I often had to wait 30 or more minutes beyond my appointment time before being seen. At Dr. Gilreath's office I've been seen on time every time. They seem to have systems in place to make every part of your visit run smoothly. From how they took x-rays, to billing and appointments, to the work done by the hygienist/dentist, everything seems to run like a well oiled machine. On top of that all the staff are all friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. The office space itself is also quite nice. Very clean, well maintained, and seems very "up to date" with their equipment. If you're looking for a dentist and are anywhere in the northwest metro area I would highly recommend Dr. Gilreath.
