The Importance of Biannual Dental Checkups in 2025

biannual dental checkup done by Gilreath family Dentistry in Marietta GA

Maintaining your oral health in 2025 still comes down to one timeless recommendation: visit your dentist twice a year. Despite the advancements in dental technology and home care tools, routine dental visits remain an essential part of keeping your teeth and gums healthy. If you’ve been postponing your next checkup, here’s why it’s time to schedule an appointment with a trusted dental office in Marietta, like Gilreath Family Dentistry Marietta.

Why Twice-Yearly Dental Visits Are Still Necessary

1. Catch Problems Early

Many dental issues, such as cavities and gum disease, begin silently. You may not notice any pain or symptoms until the condition has worsened. Regular checkups allow your dentist to catch these problems early, before they become painful and expensive to treat.

2. Professional Cleaning Prevents Plaque Buildup

Even the best brushing and flossing routines can’t remove all plaque and tartar. Professional cleanings help eliminate buildup in hard-to-reach places, which prevents decay, gum disease, and chronic bad breath.

3. Monitor Changes in Oral Health

Your mouth can reveal more than just dental issues—it can signal overall health problems such as diabetes, vitamin deficiencies, or even oral cancer. Biannual checkups help dentists monitor any suspicious changes and guide you toward appropriate care.

What Happens During a Routine Visit?

Here’s what you can expect when you visit a professional dental office in Marietta:

  • Comprehensive Oral Exam – Your dentist will check for signs of decay, gum disease, bite issues, and other abnormalities.

  • Digital X-Rays – If needed, X-rays will help identify hidden problems beneath the surface, such as bone loss or impacted teeth.

  • Professional Cleaning – A dental hygienist will remove plaque and tartar buildup, polish your teeth, and provide oral hygiene tips.

  • Personalized Advice – Your dentist may recommend adjustments to your routine or products based on your specific needs.

Common Dental Issues Detected Early at Checkups

Regular visits can help detect and prevent:

  • Cavities and Tooth Decay

  • Gingivitis and Periodontal Disease

  • Tooth Grinding or Jaw Misalignment

  • Early Signs of Oral Cancer

  • Worn or Broken Restorations

Who Should Visit the Dentist Twice a Year?

Biannual visits aren’t just for those with dental problems. In fact, everyone benefits from regular preventive care:

  • Children and teens – To monitor developing teeth and encourage healthy habits

  • Adults – To catch changes in dental or gum health early

  • Seniors – To manage age-related dental concerns like dry mouth or bone loss

  • People with chronic conditions, Such as diabetes or heart disease, which can impact oral health

Can’t Remember the Last Time You Visited?

If your last visit to a dental office in Marietta was over six months ago, now is the perfect time to get back on track. Preventive visits not only protect your smile but also reduce your long-term dental costs by avoiding complex treatments.

Conclusion

Biannual dental visits are just as important in 2025 as they’ve ever been. They play a crucial role in detecting problems early, maintaining oral hygiene, and ensuring overall health. If it’s time for your next checkup, consider scheduling an appointment with Gilreath Family Dentistry Marietta. Their experienced team is committed to making your dental care simple, comfortable, and effective, so you can smile with confidence year-round.

Dr. Daniel Lee is the best dentist I've seen. He's so considerate of your fear of the dentist and was so painless although multiple procedures were done at the same time to save me a visit. Will definitely be coming here for years to come Il!

Susan

Dr. Gilreath is incredible with my kids. They love going to the dentist now! And this busy mom loves the warm neck wraps, the soft music and enjoying a latte while I relax!

Kenneth H.

Was lucky enough to find these guys when I got insurance that my old dentist did not take. Very professional and friendly staff! Office has the latest greatest technology as well. If you're looking for a new dentist, search no further!

Susie L.

Very personable and friendly, they took the time to go over my complex dental history and did not pressure me into anything. They gave their recommendations and priced out any options I had. Great group!

Camille Y.

Dr. Gilreath and his staff are top notch. I received the best cleaning I've ever had while watching my favorite show. The Doctor and his staff were all very polite, friendly, and courteous. They explained everything to me clearly and presented me with options in a gentle way that didn't make me feel pressured at all. It's obvious they really care about the wellbeing of their patients. The facility and equipment is really nice as well. I will definitely be back!

Juan R.

Always willing to work around my kids and my schedules. Today I had a long appointment. They started on time and always made sure I was comfortable and that the pain was managed so the procedure could’ve been completed without issues. Very courteous and professional staff.

Lucia B.

Awesome dental practice! The staff is friendly and efficient. Dr. Gilreath is thorough and versed in the latest technology and procedures. I love that he can make crowns in the office while you wait (so no walking around with a temporary crown for days or weeks). I would strongly recommend this dental practice!

Matthew W.

I've been going here for about a little over a year now. I've had a few cleanings, a filling, and started Invisiline so far. Hands down, the best run dental office I've ever been to. In the past at other dental offices I often had to wait 30 or more minutes beyond my appointment time before being seen. At Dr. Gilreath's office I've been seen on time every time. They seem to have systems in place to make every part of your visit run smoothly. From how they took x-rays, to billing and appointments, to the work done by the hygienist/dentist, everything seems to run like a well oiled machine. On top of that all the staff are all friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. The office space itself is also quite nice. Very clean, well maintained, and seems very "up to date" with their equipment. If you're looking for a dentist and are anywhere in the northwest metro area I would highly recommend Dr. Gilreath.
