It’s the month of Thanksgiving and a time to reflect on what we are grateful for. As you recognize the value of family, friends and that plate of food in front of you, don’t forget about what allows you to eat that delicious Thanksgiving feast. There’s a lot to be grateful for when it comes to your teeth. Here are five of the many reasons why you should take the time to thank your teeth:
#1 Teeth can unite us.
A smile is the same in every language and culture. When you flash your teeth and smile, you can instantly break down barriers and earn a sense of unity and compassion.
#2. Teeth help us communicate.
Your tongue needs your teeth to pronounce syllables and words. Your teeth allow you to speak to others and express your needs.
#3. Teeth are incredibly strong.
Not only are teeth made of the most durable substance in your entire body, but the muscles that allow your teeth to bite down and chew are also remarkably strong. That doesn’t mean you can use your teeth to open packages and chomp ice all day, but you can confidently rely on healthy teeth for a long day of eating, speaking and smiling!
#4 Teeth contribute to your whole-body health.
Excellent oral health is linked to the health of your body. In fact, a healthy mouth can help prevent heart disease, osteoporosis and diabetes.
#5 Teeth are quite perceptive.
No, your teeth don’t have their own brain. However, our mouths develop habits that suggest they do. For example, you probably instinctively chew on the right side if you are right-handed and vice versa for left-handers.
