Marietta Sedation Dentistry

At Gilreath Dental Associates, we are very aware that many people in and around Marietta are anxious and apprehensive about having dental treatment. Some people are even leery of having their teeth cleaned. As such, we provide Sedation Dentistry for any patients that desire it. With Sedation Dentistry, we relieve the fears, worries and anxiety that a patient might have during a cosmetic, restorative or even general dental treatment.

Atlanta GA Oral Sedation Dental Care

We provide our patients with two options for Sedation during dental procedures–Nitrous Oxide (laughing gas) and Oral Sedation using a medicine that you swallow. Nitrous Oxide is given to patients by way of a nose piece. We find that many patients really like using Nitrous Oxide because it is easy to administrator, it is well tolerated by patients and its effect goes away within a minute after you stop breathing it. This is used throughout the procedure and provides a very comfortable level of sedation. The feeling is one of relaxation with less anxiety. This is a good method of sedation for patients who are only mildly anxious. Nitrous Oxide can be used on adults and children alike.

Nitrous Oxide Dentists

What are the Benefits of Nitrous Oxide Sedation?

  • You will feel no discomfort when the local anesthetic is administered.
  • You will remain fully conscious, but completely relaxed.
  • The dosage and concentration can be easily changed if needed during your treatment.
  • You will recover quickly (1-3 minutes) and can return to normal activities like driving.
  • Nitrous oxide is very safe and effective.
  • You don’t need to be accompanied by another adult.
  • Very easily tolerated and can be used on children.

The second method of Sedation Dentistry is obtained using medication and is called Enteral Conscious Sedation. We give you a pill to take before you come in to our office which calms you and often even makes you sleep. With this method, you remember much less of the procedure and you may even fall asleep. This is a good option for patients who are much more anxious.

What are the Benefits of Enteral Conscious Sedation?

  • You will feel no discomfort when the local anesthetic is administered.
  • You will remain fully conscious, but completely relaxed.
  • You may fall asleep and you will typically remember less of the procedure after it is over.

What are the Disadvantages of Enteral Conscious Sedation?

  • We cannot be assured of the level of sedation you will experience.
  • You must have someone accompany you to our office for the procedure since you will not be able to drive.
  • Some people do not tolerate the medication well, which can occasionally result in nausea.
